Beard care is essential for anyone who has a beard or are in the process of growing one. The skin underneath the beard needs to be hydrated, nourished and moist at all time, to prevent dryness and flaking. One way to achieve this, is by using a beard oil or a beard balm – or both. But how to use beard balm & beard oil, to get the best results, and when should you use them? We will look into that in the following.

How to use a beard oil?

Applying beard oil is a rather simple process. Most beard oils, but not all, comes with a lid like an eyedropper, that allows you to pour one drop at a time. If so, apply a couple of drops in your palm, rub your hands together to spread the oil around, and then start rubbing the oil into your beard.

If your beard oil comes in a dispenser, like the The Beard Hero from CPH Grooming, dispense two pumps into your palm and perform the same process.

After you've done rubbing, use a comb to evenly distribute the oil in the beard, and to sort out your beard after all the rubbing.

When to use a beard oil?

When and how often you should apply beard oil, depends on how dry your skin tends to get. If you easily get dry skin and flaking, you should use the oil more frequent. The best time to apply your beard oil is after you've washed your beard or taken a shower.

Remember to dry your beard before applying the oil, otherwise the oil will run off. If you have tendency for dry skin, you can use the beard oil before you to go bed too, to ensure that your beard stays moist during the night.

How to use a beard balm?

A beard balm, like The Cruise Control from CPH Grooming, is designed to soften and smoothen your beard and prevent it from getting rough and prickly. Using a beard balm regularly will make your beard healthier and make it appear fresher and more live.

Using a beard balm is quite similar to using a beard oil. Rub a small amount, like the size of a pea, into your palm and rub your hands together until the balm is melted in your hands. Now, apply the balm evenly into your entire beard. Use a comb to remove any clumps.

When to use a beard balm?

The preferred time to use a beard balm is after you've washed your beard. Make sure that your beard is completely clean before applying the balm. Always use a designated beard wash, like the 8AM Splash from CPH Grooming, as it will remove bacteria and dirt from the beard while keeping the beards natural oils intact, so that your beard doesn't dry out.
The Beard Care Kit from CPH Grooming is designed to keep your beard impeccably groomed, ensuring it stays nourished, healthy, and irresistibly soft throughout the day.

The difference between beard oil and beard balm

The main difference between a beard oil and a beard balm is actually the texture. Beard balms have a thicker texture whereas beard oils are lighter. Both products are important for the overall care of your beard, as they both provide hydration and nourishment to your beard.

You can use both products together, or you can use just one of them. Beard balm is better for styling, whereas beard oil usually provides more nutrients. If you have a thick or long beard, you may find a beard oil easier to work with rather that a beard balm. Also, if you have tendency to dry skin, a beard oil is probably the choice to make.
